Closing reception: Saturday, August 1 at 5 pm

What conveys a sense of place to us as residents of a home, community or region? For this exhibit, the Momentum Art Guild artists, through a variety of media and techniques, attempt to blend the physical characteristics of a scene, landscape or subject, with the mysterious essence that emerges from it. This need not result in objective documentation, but instead, through the poetic use of color, texture and material, it may emanate a particular feeling that is invested with the intangible and thus reveals a deeper understanding of what lies beneath the sense of place.

Theme: The term sense of place to some is geographic while to others it is a feeling or perception, not the place itself. It is oft that make a place special used in relation to those characteristics that make a place special or unique, as well as to those that foster a sense of authentic human attachment and belonging. Places said to have a strong "sense of place" have a strong identity that is deeply felt by residents. MAG members inspired by this theme create works that interpret what sense of place means to them.

About MAG: MAG is a regional organization dedicated to enhancing interest in the visual arts, and supporting the development of individual artists.  Our members recognize needs, foster opportunities, provide mutual support and work for the general promotion of art and the advancement of those who create it.
